Novi Sad "Strand" beach will host the annual seventh Vojvodina Ethno Food and
Music Festival on June 28, 2008. The festival is organized by the
America’s Development Foundation (ADF) and sponsored by the Executive
Council of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina – the Provincial
Secretariat for Economy and the City of Novi Sad – the City Council for
Economy and Tourism.
The Festival will take place on Saturday, June 28, 2008 from 10 a.m.
to 8 p.m.
Vojvodina Ethno Food and Music Festival displays the cultural
heritage and richness of diversity of Vojvodina, simultaneously
presenting a synthesis of numerous local festivals famous for
traditional food, music, dances, and handicraft, all in one place in a
single day. By showcasing local events, products, and municipal tourist
offers, this unique “Festival of Festivals” seeks to contribute to
tourism development and to economic growth of local communities.
Last year Vojvodina Ethno Food and Music Festival in Novi Sad
hosted more than 1,200 performers from 40 music and dance groups as well
as 1,000 stand participants from 80 places from Vojvodina and eastern
Serbia presenting a variety of dishes and artifacts. A program and
products of such diversity attracted around 25,000 festival visitors.
Attendees, both visitors and participants alike, had the chance to
experience culture from 15 ethnic groups – Serbs, Bunjevci, Croats,
Germans, Hungarians, Jews, Macedonians, Montenegrins, Roma, Rumanians,
Ruthenians, Slovaks, Sokci, Ukrainians, and Vlachs.
This unique manifestation, the only one of its kind in Serbia, offered
visitors 200 popular and less known gastronomic specialties of local and
ethnic cuisines to taste and enjoy, including:
•
Different meat specialties - pork, beef, lamb, fish, venison, boar and
snails, ostrich and frog legs as a novelty;
• A variety of smoked specialties;
• Cheeses from Banat, Backa and Srem;
• Salty and sweet patisserie: pies, strudels, sweet breads and, of
course, pasta with poppy seeds;
• Ethno wine and brandies made of all sorts of fruit: quince, apricot,
pear, apple, cherry, sour cherry, mulberry, and plum, and the savory
honey brandy;
• Modern global trends in cuisine - healthy food.
The Festival additionally hosted famous events such as: Turija Sausage
Festival, Kacarevo Bacon Festival, Melenci Shepherds Festival, Apatin
Fish Evenings, Backi Petrovac “Kulen” Festival, and many other events.
All interested parties to participate at this year’s festival are
