West Bačka

Sombor municipality is located in the northwest part of Vojvodina, 90 kilometers from Novi Sad and 180 kilometers from Belgrade.

Sombor is an important railroad junction, connecting northwest Bačka region with the rest of Vojvodina municipality, as well as Vinkovci in Croatia. There are two major highways.

Sombor's most prominent sector is agriculture, followed by metal processing industry, electrical appliances production industry, chemical industry, and food processing industry.

Sombor

 

The municipality of Sombor has a total population of 96,669, and occupies 1,178 km2, making it the second largest municipality in Vojvodina. The three largest ethnic groups in Sombor municipality are Serbs, Hungarians, and Croats. Other nationalities include Albanians, Roma, Slovaks, and Muslims. In 2001, the refugee population was 11,529 (12% of the total population).
