The Municipality of Stara Pazova consists of nine settlements, three of
which are urban: Stara Pazova, Nova Pazova, and Novi Banovci. The remaining
six settlements have rural character: Surduk, Belegis, Golubinci, Vojka,
Krnjesevci, and Stari Banovci. The municipality covers 351 square meters.
Serbs form the majority of the population (81%), and the minorities are
Slovaks (9%), Hungarians, Croats, and Roma.
The Municipality of Stara Pazova has one of the longest private SME
tradition in the whole Vojvodina region. Today there are approximately 500
SMEs and 2,600 craft shops in the municipality, the majority of which are
located in Stara Pazova and Nova Pazova.
Agriculture is also very important in the local economy. There are
approximately 30,000 hectares of arable land, 22,000 of which are privately
owned.
Banovci Dunav is a common name for the cluster that consists of the
settlements of Novi Banovci, Kablar, Stari Banovci, and the villages of
Surduk and Belegis. This cluster has 19,518 residents, 3,858 of which are
registered refugees. There were 6,979 registered refugees in the area in
1998, excluding non-registered refugees. |

The Municipality of Stara
Pazova is located in the south-eastern part of the Srem region in Vojvodina.
According to the 1991 census, the municipality had 57,620 residents, whereas
the population increased to 67,567 people in 2002.
Its geographical position is excellent, between two largest cities in the
country, 30 km from Belgrade and 40 km from Novi Sad. All important highways
pass trough the municipality: the Belgrade- Zagreb highway, the Belgrade -
Novi Sad highway, regional roads M-22, P-106, and P121. An international
railway Budapest - Novi Sad-Belgrade-Nis and further south to Greece also
intersects the municipality.
The Surcin international
airport is 25 km from the centre of the municipality. The Danube River forms
the northern border of the municipality and it significantly contributes to
the transportation opportunities in the area. |
