Problem |
Residents of
Golubac lacked a facility for citizens’ activities where they could
gather, hold meetings, and discuss various topics of importance for
developing the municipality and local communities. Five registered
NGOs with some 880 members did not have access to computers or other
technical equipment, which greatly hampered their potential to
achieve results and limited their outreach. Entrepreneurs and
private businessmen were also unable to establish regular
communication with colleagues and potential business partners due to
the lack of publicly accessible equipment. The municipality’s scenic
location on the Danube holds considerable potential for tourism
development, yet citizens with initiative lacked a means for
coordinating and bringing together interested stakeholders to drive
towards this common goal. |

Impact |
Establishing and
equipping the Community Development Center provides citizens with
proper space for meetings and work on promoting their ideas and
initiatives, so as to create a program for social revitalization and
economic development of the community. Existing NGOs in Golubac
which focus on issues such as the environment, economy, agriculture,
infrastructure, health, youth, the elderly, gender and minority
issues, and responsible government authorities now have a space for
continuing and expanding their efforts. The Community Development
Center also enables the organization of lectures on subjects for
which citizens show particular interest, especially in areas which
stimulate the development of the private sector and local economic
development. Furthermore, Internet access available at the center
gives entrepreneurs as well as other residents the ability to
network with other businesses, explore opportunities, and maintain
contact with other communities and those living abroad. |
