Title

Establishing a Health Clinic Laboratory

Problem

There is only a single laboratory in Sombor for biochemical analysis of blood and urine, hardly sufficient for a town with a 50,000 population. There was need for a center for blood testing and analysis. The Gornja Varos local clinic had available space for establishing such a center, with no additional construction works required, but only equipment. The most significant problem was the inability of doctors and laboratory technicians to conduct all of the required analyses. Patients often had to wait up to 14 days in order to have their blood drawn. Patients were thus not treated adequately by doctors lacking adequate information.

Solution

Establishing a laboratory in available facilities within Gornja Varos local health clinic fulfills required conditions and meets the needs of Sombor residents. Renovation works and equipping with appropriate laboratory equipment enables a larger number of patients to receive blood testing and analysis.

Impact

At least 20 percent more blood analyses are conducted following the establishment of the laboratory center. The realization of this project significantly alleviates the highly overloaded capacities of the central laboratory. The equipment improves conditions for residents with better and faster biochemical analysis.
